College Confidential

On the surface, College Confidential is a lovely place. Many almost overachievers, and legitimate overachievers coming together to help each other out and make the arduous journey of high school and college just a bit more bearable. That’s the theory, at least.

In reality, it’s everyone and their mother (loads of mothers, actually), bragging about what they/their child has done. And that’s all good and well. I will be the first to admit that I like to compare myself to others, especially academically. Scratch that, only academically - as school seems to be the only place where I can excel (by some sheer stroke of luck combined with decent short term recall). There are many threads that are absolute gems (here’s to you xiggy and silverturtle) but after a certain amount of time, I just can’t bear wading through all the shit anymore.

Every once in a while I decide that I’m wasting my life reading chance threads, and decisions threads to dream schools (like now, for example). How will I ever be successful if all my time is spent comparing what little success I’ve had in the past? What is it that makes me want to know exactly how I measure up, to feel pride when I top someone out, and shame when I know I don’t make the grade?

CC is a toxic environment but I come back every time; It’s an addiction. I think I need rehab.

What’s going down at Occupy DC right now. The National Park Service said it would begin to crack down by noon.

General McPherson’s tent is kinda amazing. Note: This noontime crackdown is in one of the busiest parts of the city, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.
